The Science Behind the Product
Artecoll consists of homogenous nonbiodegradable polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres, in a solution of 3.5% partially denatured collagen.

The PMMA Microspheres
The most important property of the PMMA microspheres is their ability to induce continuous fibroblast activation, leading to autologous collagen synthesis at the site of implantation.
Synthetic injectable materials for soft tissue augmentation must comply with the following properties:

1. Completely round in shape - Avoids tissue damage
2. Completely smooth surface - Avoids inflammatory reaction
3. Sized between 32 and 40 micron - Avoids phagocytosis and migration

PMMA Microspheres

Artecoll is the only permanent injectable with PMMA microspheres. All microspheres have a distinct size (32-40 in diameter) and a smooth round surface to optimize the lasting results, while limiting side effects. The state-of-the-art microspheres are embedded by newly synthesized autologous collagen fibers, and will continue to promote collagen synthesis over the years.
